About Phoenix Arizona’s professional fine artist John Ranger.
John’s parents recognized that at a very young age John had a love and special talent for making drawings and paintings. As a young boy growing up in the San Francisco area some of his earliest memories are of sketching warehouses, fishing boats, and ships moored alone the old Sausalito, California docks.
As a very young adventurer he would spend summer days on the ocean with his Father who worked on the water. That’s where his love for the coast began and the ocean still holds a special place in his heart. It’s a theme that you will see in much of his fine artwork.
John has had the pleasure of living in creative centers like San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Scottsdale AZ, Memphis TN and Glendale AZ. He enjoyed a long successful marketing career as an Art Director – Creative Director for various advertising agencies and in 2008 founded Ranger Marketing, LLC. John has stepped away from much of the day to day operations with his marketing and graphic design company so that he can devote more of his creative energy to both his Phoenix Arizona and Discovery Bay California fine art studios. Since the 1960s John has worked in many mediums including charcoal, oil paint on canvas, acrylic paint on canvas, watercolor, gouche paint, hard pastels, pen and ink (using early 20th century metal quill dip pens). He shows an inherent ability to evoke emotion through subject, line, shape, and color in his unique compositions.
John Ranger is passionate about his fine artwork and was formally trained in the arts on the west coast at the Portland Museum of Fine Arts School (Now called Pacific Northwest College of Art ). This education cultivated his natural talent while developing and elevating his professional artist skill levels. John learned to express his visions by using all types of fine art techniques. You’ll find an impressionistic style to much of John Ranger’s work but he also continues to capture an emotional quality when it comes to his drawings especially those of people.
John’s modern wall art creations include fun 1960s POP art drawings, spontaneous abstract art, gracious line drawings, portraits, unique styled beach themes like lighthouses, seagulls, and ship paintings.
